Krumlov Tower: The Authentic Medieval Experience
Visiting Český Krumlov is like traveling back in time to the medieval period. Take the opportunity and elevate your experience by staying in the original medieval tower. The Krumlov Tower used to be part of city fortification, and it preserves its historical spirit. Let’s explore it!
Why Stay in Český Krumlov Overnight
If you want to experience an authentic spirit of Český Krumlov, you should definitely stay overnight. It is the only option to discover the city without crowds of people and watch the sunrise or sunset from the castle almost alone. Furthermore, you have a chance to explore all the picturesque streets without rush and enjoy the magical atmosphere of the city.
The Krumlov Tower
Staying in Český Krumlov overnight gives you a great chance to experience a unique accommodation in the medieval Krumlov Tower that became the first accommodation in the Czech Republic listed in Unusual Hotels of the World. This tower, dating back to the 15th century, used to be part of medieval fortification. It remained almost unchanged since then.
Krumlov Tower was reconstructed in 2016, respecting the historical character and providing the luxury and standards of the 21st century. Today, you can choose from three different rooms, the Knight’s room, the Archivist’s room, and Hunter’s room. Each one is located on a different floor and has its bathroom.
We stayed in the Archivist’s room that is actually an apartment with two bedrooms – first with king-size bed and sofa, and second with two single beds. So, a 5-members family can fit the apartment.
What I really appreciated was a fridge and coffee machine that makes you feel even more comfortable. I made a coffee and opened the file with information about the pension, and also with local tips to visit. We find a recommendation on the best views of the city and also about the best breakfasts close to our accommodation. I also appreciate a multilingual guide about Český Krumlov with amazing pictures that inspired me to take wake up for the morning photo shooting.
The History of Krumlov Tower
The history of the Krumlov Tower dates back to 1497 when construction of the tower and the fortification started. This great work finished in 1505, and the tower served its defensive purpose until the end of the 18th century. Only in 1805, the Krumlov Tower was adapted to an apartment for the guard, and it remained almost unchanged until 2015.
In 2015, the new owners started with the sensitive renovation of interiors with a great accent on every detail, preserving the spirit of the history. Finally, the Krumlov Tower was open to the public in 2016. Thanks to the enthusiasm and professional approach of current owners, you can experience something extraordinary. So, don’t miss your chance and even check the booking.
