Náplavka: Riverfront by the Vltava River
Have a walk by the Vltava embankment and enjoy views on the anchoring ships with restaurants, live music, dancing classes, theatres, and various cultural events. You can enjoy this in the particular part of the Vltava embankment. Let’s explore this place together.
Prague Náplavka
The locals call Náplavka the specific part of the Vltava embankment between the Dancing House and Vyšehrad. Recently, this cultural area spread on the opposite riverbank as well. It is called the Smíchov Náplavka. On both sides of the river, you can find anchoring ships with bars, restaurants, live music, and cultural events. I especially like evenings with swing music, and dancing classes for beginners and boats with theatre plays called “Loď Tajemství, meaning the mystery boat. You can enjoy a unique atmosphere during the sunset with stunning views over the Prague Castle and Petřín Hill with its small Eiffel Tower on the top.
Dungeons
Since October 2019, we can enjoy newly reconstructed dungeons that initially served as storage places. Today, these dungeons are open to the public as cafés, galleries, ateliers, and workshops. Six of them have a giant glass lens that serves as an entry gate. You can find them at the original Náplavka. What I appreciate is the warming system for colder seasons. So far, Náplavka was a summer destination. Thanks to the new system, we can enjoy Náplavka in all seasons of the year.
Smíchov Náplavka
On the opposite side of the Vltava river, there is a newly reconstructed Smíchov Náplavka with several dungeons and cafés as well. About a hundred years ago, there used to be a wooden theatre stage, river spa, and several factories. You can still feel the industrial character that is slowly disappearing. You can get there by the Railway Bridge that also offers a great view of the Vyšehrad church.
Farmers Market
Every Saturday morning, you can find here the beloved Náplavka Farmers Market. If you would like to buy quality products from local producers, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, bakeries, dairy products, and many others, you should not miss this opportunity.
How to get to Náplavka
Náplavka is located on the Vltava riverbank between Dancing House and Vyšehrad. You can take a tram 17 to Výtoň or Jiráskovo náměstí.
