Pension Telč No. 20: Sneak Inside the UNESCO House
It is worthwhile to stay in Telč overnight and explore the city during the evening. The best choice you can make is an accommodation in one of the historic houses on the square, in Pension No. 20.
About Pension Telč No.20
Pension is standing right on the historical square with all these beautiful colorful houses that are part of the UNESCO heritage. Pension No. 20 is one of these remarkable houses, so you have a unique opportunity to explore how these houses look from inside.
The history of the pension dates back to the 13th Century. You might know from the article on Telč that the whole square burned down in 1530, and the houses were rebuilt. No. 20 is one of the oldest ones on the square, and it changed numerous owners over time, such as butcher and baker.
In 2007, the Rajniš family of architects (you might know airship Gulliver in DOX – made by David Rajniš) bought this townhouse and entirely renovated it. Finally, they open pension to the public in 2011 and keep the genius loci of this house.
Breakfast in Garden
My favorite part of the stay in Pension No. 20 is definitely breakfast. It is served at the underground level with a huge arched window by the garden. During the hot summer days, you can enjoy breakfast in the garden under the trees and between numerous flowers. During the chilly and rainy days, you can sit inside by the window and watch the wild nature outside.
Breakfast is provided by the local farmers, including local sausages. You will receive breakfast on wooden chopping boards, and then you have a buffet-style choice with cereals, fruit, and vegetable. Of course, coffee and a variety of teas are not missing. However, the main highlight is the atmosphere of the breakfast itself. You will enjoy it!
Pension No. 20 is small, but you can still choose from five double rooms, one suite, and even a garden house! Double rooms on the first floor are my favorite, especially those with a view on the Telč square. When I woke up in the morning, I watched the sunrise over the colorful houses and then returned for sleep. What I like is the original wooden ceiling from the baroque period. It only adds to the authenticity of these rooms.
On the second floor are smaller rooms perfectly suiting for a one-night stay. If you are coming with a family, you can reserve a suite with equipped kitchen and two separate bedrooms.
Rooms are decorated with different shades of floral motives. It perfectly matches with flower garden and fresh flowers all over the house. It’s a magical motif that perfectly fits the ambient of this house.
One more specialty is a garden house that you can rent from July until August every year. It has a private kitchen and bedroom on the floor. The convenience of the garden house is that you have a garden almost for yourself.
