Kino Aero: Movie Hub in Žižkov District
If you are a fan of good quality movies with interesting ideas and artistic spirit, the cinema Aero might be your second home. Hidden in the courtyard of Žižkov district, Kino Aero will absorb you to the local life of movie enthusiasts.
About Kino Aero
Cinema Aero is both a meeting point for locals relaxing in the outdoor courtyard and indoor retro café, as well as for the movie fans waiting for the carefully selected movies. The outdoor courtyard is especially popular during the summer season when you can relax on benches, meet interesting people, and have a delicious beer on tap for reasonable prices. Inside is a newly reconstructed retro bar with drinks and snacks where you can spend your time before or after the movie and even meet filmmakers or other movie enthusiasts. What is most important, the films are offered mostly in English, that you might appreciate, especially with Czech movies.
Aero was originally opened in 1933. As one of a few cinemas survived the era of the 1990s when the boom of multiplex cinemas led to closing down the majority of small cinemas. Fortunately, the new owners find a way, how to make a program unique and started looking for alternative sources of quality movies. Today, there is a famous cooperation of three artistic cinema in Prague: Aero – Oko – Světozor. Check the program of all these cinemas via one web page, click on the menu bar and tick the English Friendly option. Here you go!
Aero Programme
The program is quite diverse in Aero. In general, we can divide it into three different kinds of projections: movies, live transmission of performances from Metropolitan Opera in New York, and live performances, such as stand-ups and ad hoc programs.
Of course, the main portion of the program is falling to the first category. Movies are the core of the program, and you have great options to choose from. Aero is also a typical venue of various thematic festivals. So you can enjoy movies from particular countries or from famous directors.
What I found interesting is the projection of movies “Naslepo” meaning the “Blind Date” when you have no idea which movie will be screened. It is a pretty popular format. No worries, if you don’t like the movie or you already have seen it, since you pay only after the screening.
I also like the series “Legends,” featuring the ageless movies that will never disappoint you. Another format, “Pop-culture Milestones,” presents iconic films that influenced several generations of movie fans. On St. Valentine this year, you can enjoy movies such as Dirty Dancing and/or The Bodyguard with your dear one. There are many more to choose from, just check the program of Kino Aero.
